I also agree that they didn't have any ill will toward me. Indoctrination also fits the bill, and is probably more accurate, but it also has a negative connotation. I guess any word you come up with that explains it properly will have a negative connotation. Maybe there is no way around offending religious people when you explain that you think they brainwashed/indoctrinated/lead you into thinking/doing things.

I try to avoid that word as well since it tends to be more negative and I don't think my family and teachers had any ill will toward me. I prefer to use the word indoctrinated because to me it reflects the constant, subtle programing of certain teachings over a long period of time.

As a follow-up to the New Amsterdam episode... Orlando Jones has a line when he is telling a doctor who he is and he says that he's a "retired veteran, emphasis on 'tired'". Not important to the post, but I thought it was a telling line.

Jennifer,

Your right about Bk. Your also right about applying logic to the church. It just doesn't make any sense, especially after you look at it without your blinders on.

Everyone knows BK is better than Mickey D's.

And that the church is screwed if we apply their own logic to them. They can't function if we do.

Hell. Now we know where they went!

This is not taught any more, at least I don't think so. I could be wrong.

Soy Yo, the problem, as I see it, with a lot of the things that BY said is that either we beleive what he says becuase he's a prophet, or we have to discount all of what he said because he was not. I'm sure there may be some "philosophies of men mingled with scripture" in there, but how are you supposed to know which is which? I think it takes a great deal of work to filter through all of that.

Sideon, I think we would all like to think Micky D's is divine, but I know what you're saying... precept upon precept.

When I was a wee lad, growing up in northern Utah, I'd somehow made the connection between Golden Plates and Golden Arches. The Gospel was everywhere and so were McDonalds. It all made perfect sense at the time.
